Bowen Therapy
Bowen Therapist: Nick Payton
"Subtle in its approach and powerful in effect. The Bowen Technique is considered safe to use on anyone, from babies to the elderly."
The Bowen Technique was developed by a gifted and innovative Australian therapist named Tom Bowen in the 1950's. Relaxing and soothing to receive, the therapist uses thumbs and forefingers to make Bowen's unique sets of gentle, rolling-type moves, which are then alternated with leaving the client to rest for a few minutes.
The moves are focused on crucial junctions of muscle and bone, nerve pathways, blood and lymph circulation and energy flow. The pauses allow the body's different systems to respond to the moves with the subtle and fine adjustments, which help to relieve tension, reduce pain and initiate the healing process.
The Bowen Technique is not necessarily a 'long-term' treatment programme. A small number of treatments are often adequate even for long-standing complaints. The Bowen therapist does not diagnose, but rather treats the individual while also focussing on any areas of concern.
A treatment can be given through light clothing. Some of the wide range of conditions which respond well to a Bowen treatment include: back pain; sciatica; frozen shoulder; tennis elbow; pelvic problems; digestive problems; fluid retention; migraine and headaches; circulation problems; stress and tension; depression; teeth grinding; M.E.; low energy; sports injuries; childhood problems (glue ear; bed-wetting, etc.,); P.M.T.; menstrual irregularities; menopausal problems.
