Glucomannan is a water-soluble dietary fibre that is derived from the root of the konjac plant (Amorphophallus konjac). The plant is also known as voodoo lily or devilís tongue! As with other types of dietary fibre, glucomannan is considered to be a "bulk- forming laxative".
Glucomannan helps to form a bulkier stool that passes through the colon more easily and requires less pressure to do so. Glucomannan has an exceptional ability to absorb water and is one of the most viscous dietary fibres known. It absorbs so much water that emptying one capsule of glucomannan into a small glass of water leads to the entire contents turning to gel! It is this action that is thought to be the reason that glucomannan works so well for weight loss.
Glucomannan (Konjac fibre) is a natural ingredient that in the context of a calorie controlled diet contributes to weight loss.
Konjac Fibre - Glucomannan has almost no calories, but is very high in fibre. Glucomannan absorbs water in the stomach. In contact with water, glucomannan expands and can absorb up to 50 times its weight. Therefore, the recommended dosage of glucomannan is lower compared to other fibre supplements.
The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3g of glucomannan in the context of an energy restricted diet.
Take 2 capsules, 30 minutes before each of your 3 daily meals, with 1-2 glasses of water.
